A most strikingly beautiful and exotic blend of pure Japanese and Norwegian descent, Sabrina Markey was raised in Honolulu, where she attended private prep school, graduated from USC with a B.A. in International Business and eventually arrived in Las Vegas, working in one of this great city’s most popular industries.
"I followed all the rules," she laughs. "After USC, I landed a job in New York in sales with an entertainment company. I had planned to work my way up the corporate ladder there.
"One night I went to a gentlemen’s club in Manhattan. It was my first time ever in a strip club and one guy offered me $500 to go on stage and dance topless for him. A few shots of tequila later, I got up the courage to do it. While on stage, he tossed $3,000 in dollar bills into the air. It rained money, and that was the beginning of my new career."
Markey traveled the world and helped open gentlemen’s clubs from Tokyo, Japan, to Mykonos, Greece. "In Japan, they had never seen American girls so willing to take their tops off. We got paid $100 per song and worked non-stop from 8 p.m. until 4 a.m., six nights a week, excluding Sunday.
"I later decided to move to Las Vegas where the biggest opportunity was. You really have to be disciplined in this business because the window of opportunity lasts just so long. I don’t care how good your plastic surgeon is, gravity will eventually take over."
Utilizing her six years’ worth of dancing experience, this energetic entrepreneur decided to help others in the industry by teaching a course named "Las Vegas Stripper 101." Covering three days of three hour-long sessions, the $300 program provides lessons in various industry insights, from budgeting to marketing.
"There are over 100,000 registered dancers in Las Vegas. On any given weekend, there are 15,000 who work consistently here. In the nation, I would say there are at least 200,000.
"One of my clients asked me for my definition of my best customer. I said someone who walks in, goes straight to the VIP room, doesn’t ask me for my last name or my phone number, enjoys the show and puts $10,000 on the table and walks out. He pulled $10,000 out of his wallet, still with the wrapper on it, and walked out. I still can’t believe he did it."
Part of the wisdom Markey openly shares in her classes is in identifying the right clients and using the proper marketing. She sends out over 500 Christmas cards each year to her top clients and uses e-mail extensively to help keep them up to date on where she will be performing.
"On the weekends, I started a class for wives and girlfriends to teach them how to dance for their husbands and boyfriends. I had one student who was 70 years old. Her 50th anniversary was coming up. She thought it would be the coolest thing. She was my hero. Everyone had such a great time.
"I am also a mortgage broker, and have begun the process of franchising my ‘Las Vegas Stripper 101’ business, to include Miami and L.A., but my big baby is my new Internet broadcasting network called www.cen.tv, which hosts new programming, as well as broadcasts live Internet concerts, sports events and other productions."
The multi-talented Sabrina Markey possesses a big heart and continues to put her adventurous entrepreneurial talents to work. From the dance floor to the mortgage floor, all have turned out to be successful winners.
