Sig Rogich, President, The Rogich Communications Group

"My family and I moved from West-mann Island, Iceland, to America when I was 7 years old," reminisces Sig Rogich, president of The Rogich Communications Group. "My father was a construction worker, and he followed the circuit. It took us through the states of Washington, Montana, Utah and finally to Henderson, Nevada, back in 1954.


"He worked the Titanium Metals plant. It was all desert and a community of less than 35,000 for the whole valley. We lived in a place called Victory Village, named for the people who worked on the dam. It was more of a tenement housing facility, very small, our place was around 550 square feet. Looking back, it probably made me a much better person. You learned to fend for yourself, especially with a name like Sig Rogich. You either had to be tough or fast, or a little bit of both."

Rogich, a graduate of Las Vegas High School and the University of Nevada at Reno, put his undergraduate degree in journalism into overdrive. "UNR had one of the better journalism schools in the country and still does today," he recalls. "I worked briefly at a television station and at another ad agency and decided to start my own firm in 1973.

"We called it R&R Partners. We kept acquiring new business and grew and outdistanced the competition. I think we just outworked everybody. It was not uncommon for me to get up and be at the office at 4 a.m. and get home at 10 p.m., seven days a week."

R&R Partners grew to become the largest advertising and public relations agency in Nevada. For over 25 years, R&R led the influential direction of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority to top national record results in travel attendance to Las Vegas. In the mid-1980s, Rogich sold his firm to devote more time to a political calling from the top brass.

"When I was young, I managed some congressional races, senatorial races and some gubernatorial seats around the country. We did the creative and media for them. In 1984, I went to work as one of the three directors for Ronald Reagan’s Tuesday Team based in Washington, D. C.

"In 1987, Lee Atwater asked me to be the advertising director for the George Bush (No. 41) for President campaign." Then, Bush asked Rogich to serve in the White House as an assistant to him and in charge of the Presidential image. In this capacity, Rogich traveled with Bush to more than 36 countries, sharing hundreds of Air Force One flights with him. "I’ve been blessed to serve him, and even more blessed to have developed a strong friendship with him, which I still enjoy today."

A "life-long learner," Rogich has worked tirelessly to improve educa-tion throughout Nevada. He serves as chairman of the board for the Clark County Public Education Foundation and has been involved with countless public education initiatives.

Today, The Rogich Communications Group is a leading communications firm with several worldwide clients. It specializes in the areas of strategic planning, business development and crisis management. The Honorable Sigmund (Sig) Rogich was proud to be named United States Ambassador to Iceland in the 1990s.
