Howard Lefkowitz, President, Vegas.com

In the 1970s, he learned a great deal about teamwork and winning from his hometown professional football team, the Pittsburgh Steelers. From their dismal 1 and 13 record in the early ‘70s to their amazing four Super Bowl appearances, Howard Lefkowitz, president of Vegas.com, and huge Steeler fan in his youth, has put into practice in business and in life what he learned and experienced from some of the best professional athletes in the world.

"I grew up in a blue collar work ethic town," recalls Lefkowitz. "My father had a couple of pharmacies. I am the first male in five generations in my family to not be a pharmacist. I started hanging out with the Steelers and kind of became the kid they all liked to have around. I went to nearly all of their games, both home and away.

"They all took me under their wing and kind of taught me. My teenage formative years were around the whole winning, you can do it thing. Being in four Super Bowls, it was incredible. It had a huge impact on how I perceive things and how I operate. Superstars like Terry Bradshaw, Franco Harris, Lynn Swan and ‘Mean’ Joe Green, I’m still in contact with a lot of the guys and recently had dinner with Franco."

Howard Lefkowitz and Jim BickfordLefkowitz embraced this winning philosophy and became a leading presence in the television and Internet industry. In 1983, he worked with Dick Clark Productions and helped put the first ever interactive prime- time show on network television. He also worked with Ted Turner’s WTBS station and created their first piece of original programming with a young man named Alex Trebek, who later went on to star in "Jeopardy." He was also vice president of business development and Internet Marketing for Internet innovator Earthlink.

In October 2001, Lefkowitz came on board as president of Vegas.com. "When I first got here we had 26 em-ployees, now we have 370. Today, we receive 2.5 million unique visitors per month between our Vegas.com and LasVegas.com Web sites. We are the only Web site in the travel industry in the Top 50, at No. 36. Vegas.com is also No. 1 in the travel industry in unique pages viewed per visitor."

Vegas.com is the official Vegas travel site and one-stop source for hotel reservations, vacation packages, tours, show tickets, restaurant reservations, car rentals and golf tee times. They are all about Vegas and only Vegas.

"Vegas.com is the No. 1 provider of information about Las Vegas on this planet," says Lefkowitz proudly. "We do not sell the other 212 markets in the United States or the other 370 markets around the world. We keep the money in town. We care about our community. It is part of our heritage.

"We are very blessed. We have a fabulous team, and things are really very family-oriented. It’s one of the reasons we enjoy working with the Greenspun’s, who’ve been innovators in our community for over 50 years.

"The food here is so unbelievable. Each restaurant has its own speciality. I love the shortribs at Craftsteak, the shrimp and garlic noodles at Crustacian, the Dover sole at Alize and the filet steaks at N9ne. I like all of the Cirque shows for different reasons, and I really like Clint Holmes."
