Bruce Merrin, President, Bruce Merrin Communications Companies
At age 12, Bruce Merrin had a crush on singing star Brenda Lee, who was also 12. Nostalgically, Merrin recalls the year as 1957, when Lee performed at the Flamingo as the youngest headliner ever on the Strip. Her recording, "Jambalaya," was the No. 1 hit, and a huge birthday pool party was thrown for her. Young Merrin was her "date."
Life was grand for the Merrins who just moved from New York City when Bruce’s dad was offered the job as president of the famous Flamingo Hotel and Casino. Their family lived in Las Vegas over the next two years.
A later move to Los Angeles provided Merrin with a prestigious UCLA Film School degree. He also proudly served his country in Washington, D. C., and Vietnam where he was chosen as editor of Army News Features.
After graduation, Merrin went to work for his mother, Leona Mayer Merrin, who had one of the most successful entertainment and PR firms in the country. "I grew up on PR. I owe everything to my mom. For three years she taught me the business." Bruce also started his Celebrity Speakers Bureau when one of their famous clients, author Michael Landon, first suggested he book speakers and start his own speakers bureau, which he did.
"In 1991, I wanted a change for my speakers bureau and my PR firm, so I decided to move back to Las Vegas."
For more than 30 years, Bruce Merrin Public Relations has represented such superstars as KC and the Sunshine Band, BluBlocker sunglasses, Team Power Publishing, The Alberta Beef Company and dozens more.
In the professional speaking arena, Bruce Merrin Celebrity Speakers & Entertainment Bureau, has booked all of the past-Presidents, from Gerald Ford to George H. Bush. Also, Larry King, Ed McMahon, and even the world’s richest man, the chairman of Microsoft, Bill Gates himself. Visit their new Web site at: www.celebrity-speakersentertainment.com.
To break away from the 24/7 business of PR and speakers, Merrin stays in shape as captain of the Bally’s men’s tennis team, recent Nevada state champions. In this hot desert, it is no wonder this fit, 50-something athlete can sometimes run circles around his 20-something competitors on the scorching tennis courts of Las Vegas.
Merrin’s two sons are his greatest treasures. "Adam, now 32, started playing a Kimball piano I won while on "Hollywood Squares" when he was just five. Today, his band, The 88, is one of the top LA bands. Josh, 27, has put his education to work to become director of marketing for a top high tech company in California."
With so much to do in Las Vegas, Merrin loves escaping to the many great hotels locally, such as Bellagio, while one of his favorite romantic restaurants is the incredible Andre’s French Restaurant downtown.
On the horizon, Bruce is doing great things for seniors. He is on the board of Capitol Group, an innovative company, which is helping build an affordable, energy efficient "Super Senior Community" in Arizona.
As it was in the early days of Las Vegas, pool parties, celebrities, and hot fun in the sun, life couldn’t be any more grand for Merrin and beautiful girlfriend Mocha. Who says you can’t have your cake and eat it too? For Bruce Merrin, life continues to get better and better, as he savors a well deserved balance of work and play in the desert paradise he calls home.
