Nathan Drage, CEO, Las Vegas Television Network, Attorney
More than 25 years ago, a visionary entrepreneur named Ted Turner first launched Cable News Network, CNN based out of Atlanta, Georgia. At the time, there were plenty of doubters. One of Turner’s favorite quotes of all-time happened to say it all, "Lead, follow, or get out of the way."
Another risk-taking entrepreneur who doesn’t allow much to get in his way is Nathan Drage, CEO of Las Vegas Television Network. Drage believes he is creating the next best thing for Las Vegas, a 24-hour, all Vegas, all the time television network, which will provide to the world top quality programming on all things Las Vegas.
"I’ve been coming to Las Vegas since about 1993, representing several of my legal clients," says Drage. "Las Vegas more than anywhere has the pulse on its customers. It is constantly changing and reinventing itself. It continues to evolve, and from a business stand-point, it is absolutely fascinating."
Born, raised and based in Salt Lake City, Drage recalls, "I’ve been in bus-iness ever since I was a kid. I had a Kool-Aid stand at 8, a lawn mowing service at 12, and in college I ended up owning my own insurance agency."
Drage continued his education and obtained his Bachelor of Science in Finance from the University of Utah in 1983 and his Juris Doctorate from McGeorge School of Law in 1987. In 1989, he opened his own law practice, focusing on corporate law, securities and international law.
In the mid-’90s, Drage handled a case for a client that involved a radio station and negotiated an agreement to buy it. He later focused on finding overlooked, undervalued media prop-erties and bought and sold several TV stations across the country.
"Five years later my media partner calls and says we’ve found another television station, channel 35. You’re going to love it. It’s in Las Vegas. I leased it with the option to buy, and bought it nine months ago. This is the vision. The world has a love affair with Las Vegas, from the early Rat Pack days, everyone wants to come here. Las Vegas is the Super Bowl for entertainment, gaming and relaxation. Yet there is no 24/7 television station in the world focusing strictly on Las Vegas. That is, until now.
"How did the media industry ever miss Las Vegas, the hottest city in Wethe world? I decided I would launch the Las Vegas Television Network. We would start programming it, experimenting with it, get the equip-ment, and get the staff. We’re going to make some mistakes and go through a learning process, yet we are doing it. We are on the air.
"The Las Vegas Television Network will paint a picture of Las Vegas for the world to see. I have 21 full time employees, most under age 25. We are making it happen. My dedicated management team includes veteran Las Vegas residents Shenandoah Mer-rick as Executive Vice President and Trip Mitchell as General Manager. The world has an insatiable desire for Vegas and we are going to deliver it."
On the horizon, will Nathan Drage and his visionary team be able to turn their dream of an all Vegas, all the time television channel into reality? With so much worldwide excitement and interest on Las Vegas featured on the Internet, the movies, and on television today, it appears a good bet a 24-hour, all Las Vegas channel has the potential to be a huge success with hard work, strong focus, proper capital, the right team, quality programming, and a bit of Las Vegas’ own Lady Luck.
